Decorated Australian Soldier Faces War Crime Murder Charges
Australia's most-decorated living soldier, Ben Roberts-Smith, has vowed to fight five war crime murder charges in his first public statement since being arrested the previous week. The Victoria Cross recipient, released on bail on Friday, denied all allegations against him and said he would use the legal proceedings as an opportunity to "finally" clear his name. Roberts-Smith, 47, is accused of participation in the deaths of defenceless Afghan prisoners from 2009 to 2012, either by killing them directly or ordering subordinates to do so.
